How to control panic attacks without drugs.

If you’ve had a panic attack you understand the debilitating feeling of crisis that comes over you. You’re short of breathe, your eyesight goes dim then you can’t move.

I was well into my forties before my first attack. I was away with friends in Sydney, Australia and I had ventured out on a plank over a river. When I turnedaround to go back my eyes started going dark, and I couldn’t move my feet.

Next off I found myself out of breath. After a while I was able to edge my way back onto the wharf, but if you do the following exercise, you’ll be able to discipline yourself to lick anxiety and panic attacks.

If you do not train yourself how to repress panic attacks then you risk genuine mental problems later in life. Be in charge of your body by trying following steps as soon as possible.

Just like any exercise, it will become easier with repetition.

Remove yourself to a safe place, your den or your bedroom, somewhere relatively silent where you can feel absolutely relaxed. If you can, sit down in a good comfortable chair as this will help you release all the stress you feel.

- Next pay attention to your breathing, breathe gently and purposefully in through your nose and out through your mouth. Use slow deep breaths.

- Next you need to create a safe place in your brain. This might feel strange at first, but imagine in your own mind the sort of place that you would like to be, doing the sort of things you like with friends you like to hang out with.

- Go into as much detail as you can, think about the clothes you are wearing, other people that are with you. Your safe place might be a scene from your favourite movie or book.

- Create a plot of events and envisage yourself living in this safe place as the sort of person you wish to be. Again go into as much detail as you can. In mine I describe to myself the perfume I’m wearing.

Most significantly, when you have each detail pictured completely in your imagination, really start to feel calm and happy and carried away to this place.

It’s that easy. When you try it a few times you are going to be able to go to your safe place no matter what your real life environment, as clearly you won’t always have panic episodes in comfy chairs in your lounge.
